E Stings

E4 Idents

E4 is a British television channel for digital television E standing for entertainment. Launched in January 2001 it is part of the channel 4 television corporation. The channel is mainly aims at a lucrative audience 15-35 age group. The programming includes several imports from the US and is home to some of the most popular shows today including The Inbetweeners.
Tv idents are created to allow the audience to identify that they are watching a certain channel and create a visual image to represent the channel allowing themselves to be identified on air and to a public audience. Idents are usually played between programmes traditionally incorporating the channels logo accompanied by a continuity announcer introducing the next programme to be aired. Idents are usually themed or set around a specific time of year or based on the channels current overall look and appeal to a target audience. Several idents have being created for the channel over the past 10 years. Each year the channel launches a E stings competition this allows young stop motion animators to create and show of their work creating a launch pad for a potential career in the industry. E stings are typically very bright and colourful and often unusual appealing to the lucrative audience. Like most idents the E4 logo is always incorporated within the ident commonly being the main focus of the ident. Purple and white are the logo representatives for E4 and these particular colours are always included in their idents allowing the audience to immediately associate these colours with the channel.
The E4 E Stings is open for anyone and can be filmed in whatever way including using stop motion animation. The project is aimed at young people within different sectors of the media industry that want a career in television and visual creating including stop motion animation. The rules of the competition that state people from the Republic of Ireland will not be able to enter the competition only UK residents allowed. Commercial music is not allowed to be used in any Stings due to legal reasons however the channel has provided 10second sound beds that can be used in all Stings. You are only allowed to enter one entry per person this is to help breakdown and judge the competition and give candidates equal chances.
When making an E Stings ident the basic equipment needed will include a camera, tripod, artificial/natural lighting, props according to what resources and ideas you plan to use. Initial ideas should always be researched looking for similar and existing products.
